Legal Awareness Programme (LAP)
The primary goal of
LAP is to have sustainable legal education
and rights awareness within the various
communities in the Volta and Western
Regions.
The specific objectives
are:
- To provide training
for legal literacy volunteers (LLVs)
- To provide back-up
support to the educational activities
of the LLVs
- To offer legal counseling
services to needy women and men
- To undertake research
and gather data which could be used
in developing training material
2. Research
WiLDAF undertakes research
at both the local and national levels
on identified topics that influence
policy. WiLDAF has carried out research
on Maintenance of Children, Women and
Land in the Volta Region, and Case Studies
on Effective Implementation of Women’s
Rights in West Africa, among others.
As part of its strategic
plan for 2005-2007, WiLDAF Ghana will
commission papers on topical issues
of concern to women. Primarily experts
will be requested to analyse legislation
and policies from a gender perspective.
These papers will be published as monographs
as part of WiLDAF Ghana 's advocacy
tools.

Capacity Building
Training and technical
assistance is one of the main priorities
of the WiLDAF network. The aim is to
strengthen the capacity of local groups
and individuals to design and carry
out effective strategies that enhance
the status of women from a legal, cultural,
economic, political and social perspective
and to adopt more appropriate and participatory
methods of rights education within the
context of varied development processes
at the local, national, sub-regional,
regional and international level.
4. Advocacy
WiLDAF maintains an
institutional presence at sessions of
major national and international institutions
dealing with human rights of women.
The aim is to monitor, advocate, and
make presentations on behalf of the
network members on issues of concern
to women in Ghana and Africa. WiLDAF
has a sizeable network of organisations
and individuals in over 20 countries
in Africa ready to respond to urgent
calls for solidarity or protest action.
5.
Networking
At the national level,
WiLDAF collaborates with both government
and non-governmental agencies, strengthening
efforts on behalf of women through unified
action and shared information.
