PROGRAMMES overview

1. Legal Awareness Programme (LAP)

The primary goal of LAP is to have sustainable legal education and rights awareness within the various communities in the Volta and Western Regions.

The specific objectives are:

  • To provide training for legal literacy volunteers (LLVs)
  • To provide back-up support to the educational activities of the LLVs
  • To offer legal counseling services to needy women and men
  • To undertake research and gather data which could be used in developing training material

2. Research

WiLDAF undertakes research at both the local and national levels on identified topics that influence policy. WiLDAF has carried out research on Maintenance of Children, Women and Land in the Volta Region, and Case Studies on Effective Implementation of Women’s Rights in West Africa, among others.

As part of its strategic plan for 2005-2007, WiLDAF Ghana will commission papers on topical issues of concern to women. Primarily experts will be requested to analyse legislation and policies from a gender perspective. These papers will be published as monographs as part of WiLDAF Ghana 's advocacy tools.

Please visit Publications to learn more about our research and published work.

3. Capacity Building

Training and technical assistance is one of the main priorities of the WiLDAF network. The aim is to strengthen the capacity of local groups and individuals to design and carry out effective strategies that enhance the status of women from a legal, cultural, economic, political and social perspective and to adopt more appropriate and participatory methods of rights education within the context of varied development processes at the local, national, sub-regional, regional and international level.

4. Advocacy

WiLDAF maintains an institutional presence at sessions of major national and international institutions dealing with human rights of women. The aim is to monitor, advocate, and make presentations on behalf of the network members on issues of concern to women in Ghana and Africa. WiLDAF has a sizeable network of organisations and individuals in over 20 countries in Africa ready to respond to urgent calls for solidarity or protest action.

5. Networking

At the national level, WiLDAF collaborates with both government and non-governmental agencies, strengthening efforts on behalf of women through unified action and shared information.
